The Review:

The Rick Ray Band has been putting out dozens and dozens of albums since 1999, each one contains a unique outlook on hard rock, jazz, psychedelic and progressive rock. I’ve reviewed a few of the albums and one thing I notice is each time, the music is different yet the same. I guess what I’m saying is, Rick Ray has a sound that while changes styles, is still recognizable as Rick Ray.

The latest release, ‘Violence Marred By peace’, is, in my opinion his most eclectic sound album to date. It is in the truest meaning, “progressive“. It’s a mixed bag of styles with emphasis on progressive rock. Rick Ray's own description of his music as "Psychedelic Progressive Hard Rock Fusion", which is appropriate as any. I would expand and say it contains elements of Alice Cooper, Robin Trower, The Beatles, and countless progressive and jazz bands, too numerous to name.. It does take several listening sessions to fully absorb the music. In the end, it’s rewarding and worth checking out, especially if you like rock with some substance.
