The Review:
- Amazing release!!!! Interesting for many music lovers that this features Francesco Zago on electric guitar, and Maurizio on piano , both from the band Yugen. This project is driven by singer/composer Claudio Milano who has been a long time songwriter for theater productions. His range is stunning. (see my review for “Il Gioco del Silenzio” which is even more stunning). This is a journey of discovery for the listener. There are just a few dozen singers in the entire world, that I have heard ( and yes, I will brag again, I own over 10,0000 CD’s from around the world and previously owned over 6,000 vinyl albums from all over the world in as many styles as I can/could afford ) that command the art of vocals this way. It’s more of a respect Claudio has for his song and deliverance, that makes it this high on the hill.
A listener might still need to appreciate works on the latitude of a unimaginable group of the best carnival actors and performers (Cirque du Soleil), and Tuvan throat singers, a male version of Diamanda Galas and Meredith Monk, with plenty of twists and turns, and engaging atmospheres created by high end musicians going from dense to just plain gorgeous and simple, than you can handle all in one listen. Whew, that was a long sentence all fragmented (my English teachers would slice and dice me on that one ) .
I am blown away by this release. It gives new life into the world of progressive music. This has nothing to do with neo prog or the limited label of progressive rock. It is progressive music! It escapes the boundaries and the bars that so many critics and fans placed on “prog bands”. For me, it’s still all about exploration! And Nichelodeon bangs a gigantic drum on making something new and sweet to the ears of all the music lovers that seek something off the charts, off the map, and almost off the planet grid *s* HAIL to the music that still gets made just for people like us!
