The Review:

On their seventh studio release ‘Echoes‘, the California Guitar Trio gives the listener a variety of cover songs, from Beethoven’s “Pastorale” to the Penguin Cafe Orchestra’s “Music for a Found Harmonium” to Mike Oldfield’s “Tubular Bells” (better known as the theme to The Exorcist) and the title track, “Echoes”, a beautiful rendition of the classic Pink Floyd song. Also first-ever studio version of a longtime live staple, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” takes the song from a classic rock to classical music.

Among those joining the trio on the album are Tony Levin (Bass) and Pat Mastelotto (percussion), as well as vocalist Bonnie “Prince” Billy on “And I Know” by a Swiss band Krokodil and a interesting reggae version of “Freebird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, which ends the album.

While guitar oriented, “Echoes” seems to have more “outside the box” arrangements than previous releases. Thus making their devoted fans very happy. This is also a very good place as any of the CGT albums to start for those new to the band. “Echoes” brings yet another fantastic album full of guitar based bliss. Folks, if you enjoy classical, acoustic guitar or any type of progressive based music, this is a must have!! I recommend that you get it ASAP!!
