The Review:

Kimmo Pohjonen and Samuli Kosminen (Kluster) and Pat Mastelotto and Trey Gunn (from King Crimson and duo TU) join forces to form the double duo formation KTU (pronounced K2). For those unaware, Pat and Trey best known for their involvement in King Crimson for the past 10 or so years. They have also been involved more recently as a duo known as TU, a more experimental style band that touches area explored in the last two King Crimson full releases. Now combined with the two members of Kluster they’re expanding that exploration. Sometimes incoherent, sometimes very accessible but never disappointing.

KTU began in March 1999 when Kimmo Pohjonen shared a billing with Mastelotto, Gunn & Fripp's Project Three at the Electric Lounge. Over the next 5 years, the quartet now known as KTU began to take shape. 8 Armed Monkey is the 2005 result of this alliance. This is probably more geared toward the more experimentally inclined music fans and causal ones may get turned off easily. I do recommend it to fans of King Crimson’s recent line-up as well as the individual members. I also come to think of KTU almost a companion to Mastelotto’s Tuner project.
