The latest from Danish-based multi-instrumentalist Robin Taylor is from his Taylor's Universe group called ‘Soundwall‘. It was released in 2008 and has a new member; former Mercyful Fate and King Diamond guitarist Michael Denner.
Musically Soundwall contains many different elements so it’s hard to categorize it. The musical genres Taylor stays close to in each composition are progressive rock and jazz. He also adds some ambient to the mix.
My favorites from this album are the opening, "Tag Attack" which is melodic, atmospheric and with symphonic prog leanings. The other is the closing “Aspx” which includes some female spoken words and is also very symphonic sounding after a soft beginning. The rest of the album is also good, it’s just those two tracks stick out to me the most.
After reading the reviews one of my staff wrote (he did a synopsis of several albums -- [link]), I decided to take on the review of "Soundwall". I’m very glad I did as I found the music to be very enjoyable, especially the tracks mentioned above. I’d recommend this to fans of symphonic based music.
