The world of Chapman stick players has a new addition to the fold, that of Rob Martino. Rob has several original and cover songs on you tube.. Plus he played during one of the breaks of last years’ 3RP festival of which I attended and witnessed. I’m still in awe about how the Chapman stick is played. Rob Martino was very relaxed as if it was the easiest instrument to play.
In 2010 Rob released an album of original material called One Cloud. The music on the album has it’s origins as far back as 2004. One Cloud is purely an instrumental album and gives off an amazing tapestry of music. I’m primarily into vocals based music but there’s something about Rob’s playing. He even reminds me of another Chapman stick player, Don Schiff.
One Cloud is one of 2010’s best instrumental debuts to cross my desk. It’s one of those types of albums that please most progressive rock fans. The album is also the perfect length, 48:34 and contains two long songs, “The Long Circle” 11:05 and “The Third Enigma” 13: 16, highlights the albums.
If you’re a fan of musicians that play the Chapman stick, then adding One Cloud to your collection is a no-brainer. Highly recommended release!
