The Review:

Parhelia, an all instrumental Irish quartet released their second and final EP, 'Oceans Apart'. Musically the band merges two genres, post-rock and progressive rock. The end result to my ears is a “progressive” sounding instrumental music with a warm sometimes dark emotional feel combined with a jazzy based metallic sound.

Normally I'm not a fan of instrumental music, because most of the time it's too self-indulgent and strays away into a chaotic mess but I really liked what I heard on 'Oceans Apart'. If I feel the need for some instrumental progressive music Parhelia is one band I chose. Another thing I like about the album is that it's based in a structured ‘improvisational’ vibe.

Upon hearing that the band recently dissolved, I bought their first EP, ‘First Light’ so that I can get an overall feel for the band. They had much to offer and hopefully they‘ll resurface and give us miore music!!

This band will cater to fans of Porcupine Tree, Fates Warning, Rush, Radiohead, Sigur Ros and many more. I would highly recommend getting a copy of ‘Oceans Apart‘ ASAP!
