The Review:

I was sent this album called Lunar Surphase by an oddly named band called OGOGO. The opening track, “Levitate Your Grape” almost sounds like a schizophrenic video game soundtrack (Pacman Gone Wild?). The rest of the music is very experimental and can‘t be categorized under any genre. There‘s some similarities to some of Mastelotto/Gunn music like their KTU and TU projects as well as Tuner. The musician behind this “madness” is Russian guitarist/composer/arranger/conductor Igor Grigoriev. It should be noted that Lunar Surphase is his sixth release.

I bravely continued onward through this difficult album of “noise”. If there wasn’t as much improvisation on the album and more structure, I would have enjoyed it a lot more. Igor is a skilled guitarist and composer of what falls under several genres like avant guard, electronic guitar “soloing”.

As much as I would have liked this album more I can honestly only recommend this to people that like enjoy “music” with more complex and difficult improvised sounds. Others that dislike improvisational music that sounds like a schizophrenic video game should stay clear.
