The Review:

Ex-Within Temptation drummer Ivar De Graaf teamed up with classically trained vocalist Judith Rijnveld and formed a brand new band called Kingfisher Sky. They recorded their amazing debut ‘Hallway Of Dreams’ for The Lasers Edge label. They mix gothic metal, progressive rock, pop, folk, and Celtic influences. Rounding off the band are Daan Janzine & Edo van Der Kolk (guitars), Eric Hoogenboorn (bass), and George Van Offen (keyboards).

People will instantly notice Judith‘s vocals are reminiscent of Anneke van Giersbergen (ex-The Gathering), Sharon Den Adel, Tori Amos, Kate Bush and Annie Haslam, yet she has her own vocal stylings. From the opening track, "The Craving" to the final track “Sempre Fedele" the band takes no prisoners.

Thankfully Kingfisher Sky is beyond the typical gothic female fronted metal bands since they seem to be a dime-a-dozen lately. With Hallway of Dreams the band scored high on the recommendation cale. I can’t get enough of them. I hope they continue to be in their own league and maybe surprise us in the near future.
