The Review:

Recently there’s been a number of progressive rock bands that have crossed-over to the modern rock sound. Now a few modern rock bands are crossing over into the progressive rock/metal genre. The latest band to do this is New York’s own Ayurveda and their self titled debut EP shows a nice blend of alternative metal with a prog rock sound.

Each song takes the best of both worlds and creates a fresh new sound that will appeal to fans of those genres. I honestly think Ayurveda is one of those bands that will help bridge the gap between modern and progressive rock. Hopefully the bridge will be strong enough so most critics of prog rock will no longer deem prog as a nasty word.

Currently the band is in the studio with producer Alex Perialas (Bad Religion, Anthrax, Testament, Overkill, S.O.D.), which is tentatively slated for release in early Fall 2007. I am anxiously awaiting that album and must recommend this band and it’s debut release for purchase especially those that enjoy a modern sound.
