The Review:

Venturia is a French American Progressive Metal band that recently released its first album, The New Kingdom. The musical styles on this album range from blistering Metal to sweet Prog/Pop, but all the songs seem to fit well together.

The band members are accomplished musicians, including their guest keyboardist, Kevin Codfert of the band Adagio. Most remarkable, however, is the female lead vocalist, Lydie Robin, who adds positive energy with her clear, powerful voice. Her voice blends perfectly with male vocalist Marc Ferreira. Think Evanescence with a harder edge, or Lacuna Coil with a softer edge, but in either case, Robin performs excellently.

I always hesitate to compare a Prog Metal band with Dream Theater, but certain songs on The New Kingdom will remind the listener of DT's trademark blend of guitar and keyboard riffs. However, they are by no means a clone band, thanks to lead guitarist Charly Sahona.

The strongest songs are the title cut and the final song, Dear Dead Bride, but it's all very listenable. I would not hit the skip button for any song on this album. Reviewed by Melissa Palmer on May 30th, 2006
