The Review:

Furious. Strong. Tenacious. These are the first words that came to my mind when I listened to “Power Failure” for the first time. A damn good album ! The Sonic Revolution is not the “usual” kind of band! They’re quite “new” on the scene and out of the ordinary as well! From New York (Long Island), the four musicians got together close to 2004 and recorded their first album “The Sonic Revolution” the same year. Not long after, in 2005, they released their second one, entitled “Dystopia”. And now, we’ve already got “Power Failure” fresh in our hands. They released three CD’s on their own in two years… Impressive. The guys work fast; and well!

They are productive, and effective. I really could see that with “Power Failure”. Especially with the songs “Power Failure”, “Follow the Money” and “A Day in the Life” themselves, which are my favourite ones and probably the best ones to translate the album’s “aggressiveness” (musically, vocally and everything). I quite liked “Drama” a lot, too (esp. for the lyrics), which is a bit softer. Not only the melodies are super good, but the lyrics are awesome, too!

They don’t follow the “usual pattern”. You have more the impression to listen to an individual story in every track than have the usual verse, chorus, verse, chorus, etc. And I like that! Vocalist Nick Parisi does a superb work on this CD (strong rock vocals), just as do excellent guitarist Joe Marselle, bassist Peter Doxtader and drummer Soofis. (I recently heard that Soofis had quit the band…so let’s see who’s going to be next for the fourth album…) The album seems to pass kind of fast (about 45 minutes) but it’s strong on every aspect.

The CD was all in all a great discovery to make for me and I recommend it to those who like an aggressive music style combined with good lyrics !
