The Review:
- Four years have passed and now Sun Caged is down to one original member, guitarist Marcel Coenen. The music on this new version of the band is similar but expands slightly outward on their new album Artemisia. Rest assured they haven’t deviated from the progressive metal genre. In fact I’d say it’s more of an improvement since the new singer, Paul Adrian Villarreal has a more accessible voice than his predecessor Andre Vuurboom.
Song-wise the music are more concise and better than the first album. Not saying the first album was bad, just this is much better. The one thing is that they stay too much in the style with the faster than light guitar shredding but then again it’s on the Lion Music label, which is famous for that style. This is also a genre I’m familiar with but have never analyzed it like the way I have of it’s cousin progressive rock. However I would recommend this band and their new release Artemisia to fans of Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, Symphony X and similar bands.
