The Review:

The newly renamed Unicorn Digital (formerly Unicorn Records)starts out 2005 with the release of Parallel Mind’s debut Colossus ADEA. Parallel Mind features bassist Bill Kopecky whose credits include Kopecky, Par Lindh Project and Far Corner. and 2 other musicians (a drummer and keyboard player). This band is basically an instrumental trio of bass, keys (Nibandh Nadkarni) and drums (Joe Bobiak). There is also some extra instruments such as a great guitar solo on the opening track “Chromantic” and the drummer contributes Trumpet and Flugelhorn.

For comparison sake, the band that Parallel Mind sound most like are UK and ELP as well as Liquid Tension Experiment and Planet X. These are only comparisons so the listener has an idea what to expect with Parallel Mind. This is by far one of the better instrumental albums I’ve heard in years. It’s very bombastic and straight forward in a symphonic way. Highly recommended to fans of Bill Kopecky’s musicianship as well as prog fans in general. I hope this release won’t get overlooked because it’s an amazing album that needs to be exposed more!
