The Review:

Percussionist/composer John Orsi, co-founder of Knitting By Twilight, has been involved in other bands such as Incandescent Sky, Overflower and Herd of Mers. I’ve had the extreme pleasure of reviewing all of the Knitting By Twilight releases to date as well as the latest from Incandescent Sky. Now he offers up a glimpse back in time before the days of KBT with a solo EP entitled Surface And Features, which was originally released in 1989. This EP was re-issued with exclusive bonus tracks for 2006. This re-issue has an expanded title as well, The Library Of Music Vol. 1 No. 1.

In a note to me, John explained that this EP was the proto-type blueprint for what was to become KBT. After several listens, I see this to be very true, in fact I would even say this was a part of the KBT catalog, even though a John Orsi solo album. My only complaint is the shortness of the songs, it left me wanting more after the 22 minutes were up. Thank goodness for the repeat button!

With the now expanded title, one can hope there’s many more volumes of John Orsi’s solo music. If you’re a fan of all things John Orsi, then I implore you to rush out and get Surface And Features today. Your ears will thank you many fold.
